World 37

The 2013 Rana Plaza collapse had a profound impact on the greater fashion industry and beyond in World 37. Leaders from around the world recognized the need for change and convened a diverse working group of experts (designers, makers, waste specialists, etc) and consumers to find a solution for some of the industry’s most pressing issues, which contributed to the factory’s collapse. They came up with a global mandate: every person on the planet – including celebrities, leaders, everyone – could only have a capsule wardrobe.

The wardrobe consists of 5 pieces of underwear (bottom), 5 pairs of socks, 5 short-sleeve or sleeveless shirts (can mix them), 5 long-sleeve shirts, 5 sweaters, 5 bottoms (skirts and/or pants), 5 pairs of shoes, 3 jackets/blazers, 2 coats, 2 scarves, 2 hats, and 2 pairs of gloves. An additional 2 piece underwear (top) allowance applies for those who want to cover their top region (ie: a bra, binder, camisole).

The capsule wardrobe is maintained by a system in which an individual can go to their local Capsule Wardrobe Store and put in an order for their item/s to either be repaired, or in the worst case scenarios, replaced. This mandate was signed into effect in 2030.

Regierungschefinnen der Welt sahen die Notwendigkeit für Veränderung und zogen eine vielfältige Runde an Expertinnen zu Rate (Designerinnen, Produzentinnen, Abfall-Expertinnen, etc.). Gemeinsam mit Konsumentinnen wurde nach Lösungen für die größten Problem innerhalb der Industrie gesucht, die auch zum Einsturz der Fabrik beigetragen hatten. Sie kamen zu einer globalen Vereinbarung: Jede Person auf der Welt – einschließlich Prominente, Regierungschefinnen, Jeder – darf nur über eine Capsule Wardrobe (Kapselkleiderschrank) verfügen.

Die Capsule Wardrobe besteht aus 5 Unterhosen, 5 Sockenpaaren, 5 kurzärmeligen oder ärmellosen Oberteilen (mischen ist möglich), 5 langärmeligen Oberteilen, 5 Pullovern, 5 Kleidungsstücken zum Bekleiden der Beine (Röcke und/oder Hosen), 5 Paar Schuhe, 3 Jacken/Blazer/Jacketts, 2 Mäntel, 2 Schals, 2 Kopfbedeckungen und 2 Paar Handschuhen. Zudem gibt es 2 weitere Oberteile bei Unterwäsche, für Personen, die ihren Oberkörper bedecken möchten (BH, Unterhemd, Binder). Die Capsule Wardrobe wird unterhalten, indem eine Person zu seinem*ihrem lokalen Capsule Wardrobe-Laden gehen kann und eine Bestellung bezüglich Reparatur, oder im Notfall zum Ersetzen, aufgibt. Diese Vereinbarung trat 2030 in Kraft.
