World 159

In 2032 of World 159, only licensed designers and suppliers are allowed to make and sell garment and textiles, as the result of a law passed by the International Court of Justice in August 2020 followed by deliberations on the vices of the fashion industry during the COPNow. In order to attain this license, designers have to adhere and uphold certain standards pertaining to ethics, sustainability, and transparency; practicing accountability for their actions with circular fashion in mind. An authority system oversees and ensures that these rules are being followed consistently, if not their license will be revoked and they will be unable to practice and sell garments forever.

In their practice, all designers and manufacturers must provide mending services for their garments. Once irreparable, garments must be returned to the designer to be repurposed. This way, new and old fabrics and garments all play a part in the fashion system.

What if …

only licensed designers and suppliers were allowed to make and sell garments and textiles, which have to be constantly repurposed?

Issue:

overconsumption, overproduction, the lack of consideration of the consequences of one’s actions in the pursuit of profits, the lack of awareness of the fashion system

Inspiration:

the fast fashion system, circular fashion, accountability in fashion
