World 244

In World 244, clothing ownership is a memorable snippet of the past. People can only shop through an online library that has access to sustainable garments, where they are able to rent them out for special occasions.

“The Archival Archive” is a platform distinct from your everyday thrift store, as this world takes us back in time, where you can not just rent out everyday to wear clothing, but curated items from distinct collections, iconic movies, historical time periods, as well as pop culture moments, to allow for an immersive historical experience. This allows buyers to eliminate waste by reusing clothes or for luxury brands to upcycle them. This also takes us away from the middle class, upper class distinction.

What if …

you could only shop at one online platform, where you could rent out curated items from distinct historical time periods or iconic moments in film?

Issue targeted:

Upcyling, reusing, reducing consumer purchasing

Inspiration:

Taking inspiration from second-hand clothing apps such as Vinted but taking a luxury feel on it, to set the scene for something that represents the world of fashion exhibitions and historical pieces.

Does this World remind you of something?

I am keen to hear about any historical or contemporary real-world examples – whether individual practices, subcultures or mainstream activities – that this fiction brings to mind.

Please share any such examples using this form. Thank you!
