In World 248 people woke up to the suffering happening all around them and became disenchanted with the neoliberal capitalist values of hyper-individualism and accumulation. When society was reborn, Buddhist principles were adopted globally and became the hegemonic values. Governments and citizens decided that all activity would be aimed at fostering wellbeing and preventing harm to any form of life.
Buddhist principles of mindfulness, interdependence, kindness (non-violence), and selflessness are taught in the education systems, embraced in families, and inform all artistic and economic activity, including fashion. People practice formal meditation at least twice a day – once in the morning when they get dressed, and once after undressing at the end of the day – as fashion itself becomes integrated with spiritual practice. All clothing is worn with care and intention, and made with the wellbeing of the wearer, designer, workers, and planet in mind.
